At the fifth general meeting the chairman told shareholders: "I may mention that not one ounce of silver is held by this Bank on its own account and your Board is determined to adhere to this policy." Within a year the Commerce of Calcutta reported that "the attempt to corner silver, a project of the directors of the Indian Specie Bank, still continues".
